Garvin Romane
Chief Executive Officer/Founder
Dr. Garvin P. Romane is a dedicated and passionate school leader, educator, speech-language pathologist, and adjunct professor. He has spent the last 18 years studying language and vocabulary development and speech-language pathology, clinically practicing those fields, and serving culturally and linguistically diverse students and families in different capacities in both his work and various volunteer positions.
Dr. Romane is the assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services and special education at the Freeport Union Free School District, where he leads a group of special education teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, speech pathologists and one audiologist in the fulfillment of the above mission and goal and in the development of speech-language education programs in general. He is also an adjunct professor of speech-language pathology at Stony Brook University and Touro College, where he teaches a graduate course in that subject and shares his knowledge of its application in oral, linguistic and auditory sciences. When he is not busy with these activities, he enjoys traveling, immersing himself in a variety of cultures, and exploring international cuisines.
Dr. Romane’s research interests include the examination of current methods of support, intervention, therapeutic delivery, and assessment of cultural and linguistic diversity programs for students and families. He is also extensively involved in assistive technology applications for speech-language pathology, the advancement of strategic learning models that support students of color, and the use of technology to advance speech, language and literacy skills.
Dr. Romane holds a license in speech-language pathology, a master’s degree in speech pathology from New York University, a master of science in education in administration and supervision from Fordham University, and a doctor of philosophy in language, literacy and learning from Fordham. He holds additional certifications in school district leadership and school building leadership (SDL and SBL) and as a teacher of the speech and hearing handicapped (TSHH). He is chief executive officer for My NEXTLevel Tutor, a highly effective speech/supplemental educational consulting practice specializing in speech and language therapy for all ages as well as academic coaching.
Trevor Queen, M.Ed.
Executive Director of Innovative Learning
Trevor Queen, a Gates Millennium Scholar, is experienced in marketing, operations, communications, policy and legislative affairs. He has worked for Widmeyer’s PreK-12 education practice based in the New York City office of Finn Partners, interned for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, held a summer fellowship with Ketchum, and served as an education policy intern at American University’s Washington College of Law, where he conducted research to help change the law school’s outdated policies. In 2012, Mr. Queen became the first student from Annapolis, Maryland, to receive the Gates Millennium Scholarship Award, which was widely recognized by the City of Annapolis, the Anne Arundel County Public School Board of Education, and the Anne Arundel County Council. Mr. Queen holds a master’s degree in education policy with a specialization in law from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in political science from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Queen is also a former president and tour manager of the world-renowned Morehouse College Glee Club and a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Mary Oliver
Tutor
Mary Oliver is a New York University senior pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Spanish language and literature. She also concentrates in creative writing, film, and film production. She has been social media manager and content creator for NYU’s Center for Data Science, managing and writing for its professional social media platforms and blog. Mary has experience tutoring in SAT/ACT test preparation and high-school mathematics, as well as teaching reading and writing in small group settings. She has been a private tutor in New York and a small group leader and refugee tutor at J. E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her main interest is assisting and preparing students for the challenges they face in academics and life.
